Preservation Efforts

Saving Delaware’s historic lighthouses is a complex challenge that the Delaware River & Bay Lighthouse Foundation relishes. Before an organization can be successful at lighthouse preservation, it must be able to build an infrastructure capable of sustaining such a demanding endeavor. The DRBLHF strongly believes that through a combination of volunteerism, community

fundraising, legislative support, partnership-building and adherence to preservation guidelines, together we can all make a difference with ensuring the preservation of Delaware’s lighthouse heritage for future generations.

DRBLHF members are provided with monthly hands-on opportunities to participate in a variety of maintenance and rehabilitation projects at Harbor of Refuge, Liston Range Rear and Delaware Breakwater East End lights. Whether the volunteers are skilled craftsmen or simply people with a desire to give back to Delaware’s historic lighthouses, there is something for everyone to help out with at the lights. In addition, volunteers can make an even bigger contribution to lighthouse preservation through dedicated fundraising efforts that enable the DRBLHF to fund professionals to enact more complex and historically sensitive repairs at the three lighthouses. Mother Nature never takes a break and nor can the DRBLHF’s lighthouse preservation and fundraising efforts. We encourage you to become part of our team today – together we’ll leave the “light” on for future Delawareans!
